Hydrogen Long-Haul Trucks Pass the 1,000-Mile Test
April 23, 2026
LONG BEACH — While electric batteries are winning the passenger car market, green hydrogen is emerging as the clear winner for long-haul logistics. This week, a prototype semi-truck from 'H-Logistics' successfully completed a 1,000-mile cross-country run using only compressed hydrogen, maintaining full power even during steep mountain climbs.
The primary advantage is the refueling speed. Unlike large electric trucks that require hours of charging, the H-Series truck refueled in under 10 minutes at a standard station. "For the logistics industry, time is money," says fleet manager Tom Hayes.
The only byproduct of the trip was pure water vapor. The company is now working with governments to build a "Hydrogen Highway" of refueling stations along major shipping corridors, aiming to replace 30% of diesel trucks by 2030.
